On March 5, the local community was graced by the addition of nine AmeriCorps* NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) volunteers. The team came to Florida to work with INTACT, St. Lucie's Long Term Recovery Organization to help low income homeowners harden their homes against future hurricanes. The volunteers came from states across the nation and are devoting 10 months of their lives to serving others. Lead by Laura Hoffman from Minnesota, the group worked hard to enhance their construction skills and learn about the importance of hurricane mitigation. In just 7 weeks they installed hurricane shutters for low income families on over 50 homes!

AmeriCorps* NCCC is a full-time 10-month residential service organization for individuals between the ages 18-24.
