Central Services is responsible for maintaining more than 1.4 million square feet of County buildings including Rock Road Jail facility and approximately 3.7 thousand tons of air conditioning. Central Services is also responsible for the County service garage which manages over170 light fleet vehicles and maintains the county's heavy equipment.

Over the past year Central Services has been responsible for a number of major remodeling and improvement projects. Some of the improvements include the remodeling of Human Resources Department, the former Tribune building into useable office space, remodeling of office space at St. Lucie West for the Sheriff, Clerk of Court, Veterans Services and Court Administration. Renovations of Information Technology to provide additional office space, renovation of room 101 to a multipurpose meeting and training room, complete renovation to the Environmental Health unit at 7th street, renovation of old city jail into a storage document center and the addition of a Cultural Affairs room at Ft. Pierce Community Center. Central Services has also replaced or repaired 14 lifeguard stands this year.

Central Services has overseen the roof replacement of the St. Lucie West Courthouse Annex, Sheriffs Hanger, Agricultural Center, old City Jail, Supervisor of Elections warehouse and the Historical Museum. Central Services had floor covering replaced at the Agricultural Center, Civic Center, Lincoln Park Community Center and the Morningside Library.

New construction this year includes the completion

of the Environmental Learning Center, New Health Department at Milner Rd., the completion of a new booking area at Rock Road Jail, and new restrooms under Americans with Disabilities Act were constructed at the Savannas, Sportsman Park, Frederick Douglas Memorial Park, Maravilla Park and Lakewood Park.

Other improvements consisted of new court recording equipment for all courtrooms, added 3rd video conferencing system from Courthouse to jail. Our Service Garage was able to replace thirty-two vehicles under our vehicle replacement program.

Central Services Department consists of the following divisions: General maintenance division, Building Maintenance division, Jail Maintenance division, A/C Maintenance division, Service Garage division and Housekeeping division. Each one serves the county in a variety of ways. The 49 member staff of Central Services are proud to serve and will continue to strive to improve our service to St. Lucie County.
