seen positive progress. Local businesses have
accessed our job growth incentive programs and new firms as well
are applying for job growth and other incentives. We're seeing
progress in many areas, from the County's new Marine Museum (soon
to be completed) to applications for merchant power plants (in
process). We've acquired a utility; we're participating in the
rebirth of a mall; we've secured funding for several roadways;
we've opened a number of our environmental preserve locations -
the County is taking action and seeing positive change.
The challenges to provide for current and future growth still
exist. We must choose wisely to preserve our local character while
developing a far-reaching commercial sector. We must keep a steady
hand on the wheel, but maintain momentum - and this St. Lucie
County community is more than equal to the task. I've been proud
to be a part of this community, but never more than now, as our
exciting potential begins to be realized.

District 5-
As I start my third term, I reflect on the positive changes that the
people of St. Lucie County have successfully accomplished. The
residents have approved referendums to buy beachfront property,
establish tax incentives for new and expanding businesses, buy
environmentally sensitive lands, improve our school system, and
preserve land in the harbor for public access and mixed use
development. Our resident have also supported our efforts to
establish an effective storm water utility, begin cleanup of area
waterways, and expand our cultural and economic development
programs. Perhaps the most exciting progress our community is
making, however, is reflected by our rapidly growing national
reputation as a marine and agriculture research hub. This community
is heading in the right direction and I am honored to have been
chosen to help lead the way.
