St. Lucie County Adds Lyft to Its Direct Connect To After-Hours Transportation Service

Post Date:10/18/2017 8:05 AM

St. Lucie County’s Transit Division has expanded its Direct Connect transportation program to include the transportation network company Lyft.

Lyft is a popular reservation and vehicle routing system accessed through smart phones, featuring local drivers. Direct Connect clients wishing to use Lyft, will be assigned a unique coupon code that will identify them as a Direct Connect Program passenger when they establish a Lyft account.

Clients that do not possess a smart phone may request and reserve off-hours Lyft service through St. Lucie County’s Community Services - Transit Division during regular business hours.

“Adding Lyft to the Direct Connect transportation service portfolio enhances the convenience and responsiveness of the Direct Connect Program and improves off-hours transportation availability when traditional car services are not operating,” explained St. Lucie County Transportation Planner/Transit Systems Coordinator David Engel, MCRP, ACIP.

Trips rendered through Lyft represent a significant cost-savings to St. Lucie County, extending the time period that current program funding will be available.

Direct Connect clients selecting not to use Lyft, may continue to use traditional transportation providers previously contracted by the St. Lucie County.
