Oyster Bagging Volunteers

Oyster modules play an important role in the health of the Indian River Lagoon as they:

  • Create fish habitat;
  • Filter unwanted nutrients from entering the estuary;
  • Redirect stormwater effluent, which impacts the health and growth of seagrasses;
  • Stabilize the shoreline.

Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and bring gloves, sunscreen and water.

For more information about volunteering, contact St. Lucie County Coastal Resources Supervisor Jim Oppenborn at 772-462-1713 or oppenbornj@stlucieco.org.
